Dunkin Donuts Apple Cider Review

10/29/2011

I should have known.  This week has been good, but mostly because I see myself as having a decent sense of humor.  It's been the type of week where the world is Lucy and I'm Charlie Brown running to kick the football.  I fell for it.  Every.  Time.  On the bright side Meghan got some points this week, everybody needs the friend that says "yeah I'd leave that alone".  Even though I didn't listen and got slammed, I still appreciate that she gave me sincere advice.  Not too many friends like that these days.

ANYway I woke up this morning after an interesting Friday night, with that familiar super hungry/super thirsty feeling that comes right after certain Friday nights.  I went to McDonald's with the intention of getting a large orange juice and a large coffee, but there was a huge line because it looked like someone punched out the screen that you look at when you place your order.  Did I mention that I love NP?

So I went to Dunkin Donuts, still hoping for a juice, but was swayed by the great product photography of the new apple cider.  I ordered an iced cider and a large iced coffee.  The first impression of the cider is that it really does taste like cider.  It's more in the aftertaste that you realize that something isn't quite right.  It doesn't taste BAD, but it's so loaded with cinnamon that it's almost like they're trying to hide something.  And did I ask for cinnamon? I asked for cider.  It also tasted sweeter than normal cider, and without the "bite" that comes with real cider.  It's like someone who's never had cider had someone describe it to them and then took it in to a lab to build the perfect cider substitute.

Anyway, it's not bad, but it's not good.  If anything, I think their cider offerings may actually boost the business of local orchards because that was completely unsatisfying and now I'm craving the real thing, for enjoyment and comparison purposes.  Also, I'm not sure if I just drank it too fast, but now I feel kinda sick.  How much sugar is in this stuff?

Fatbelly's Fat Belly's East Greenwich Networking Event October 24

Which spelling is it?  I've seen it both ways and don't feel like looking it up.

Went to a decent networking event at Fatbelly's in East Greenwich last night....didn't stick around too long because I was wiped and had band practice down the street later, but still made a couple good contacts.

Pretty impressive turnout seeing that (I just found out the Morning after) Uncle Jay's Monday night networking at Arturo Joe's was going on at the same time, and he is known for really packing a venue.

Not a bad day, pulled off 19 in person cold calls in addition to my regular work, a sale to a major university, a networking event, and reggae band practice.

**Important update:  It's Fat Belly's.  I think I liked it as one word better.  Do you agree?

Fundraiser Fail

10/23/2011

Having a good weekend so far, I went to a live soundstage in CT last night where they record bands with an audience and then edit later and give the bands cd's and pro videos of their work, like MTV unplugged, which was cool to see.

Today, I went to church, Twin Oaks, and then attempted to go to a fundraiser for a sick little kid.  We searched for the place for 45 minutes, asked a bunch of locals, and no one knew anything of it.

As we were driving home, we found out from my friend Kevin that they gave everyone the wrong address and changed it to the right address mid morning.  You're reading this correctly.  They gave everyone the right address THE SAME DAY OF THE EVENT.  WE had printed out the directions at 7:30am.  Not cool, I feel bad for the kid, they didn't even post anything about it being a mistake on FB.  Just not a good move by whoever organized the event...hopefully they throw another one soon because I have a feeling not too many people found the place.  The people that we asked for directions said that they had been getting people asking about an event all day.

Escada Bar Johnston RI Chichen Ranchero Wrap Review & Painter Shirts

10/19/2011

I just had a chicken ranchero wrap from Escada, it really hit the spot after only having a bagel for lunch.  Instead of fries they had a broccoli asparagus "hybrid" that they either called "brocsparagus" or asparabroccoli.  I'm pretty sure they didn't create the hybrid and that it's actually another vegetable name -- although it would be funny if a restaurant in Johnston RI started genetically engineering their own foods.  It DID taste like a perfect combination of broccoli and asparagus.

Anyway I was there to meet up with my painter friend to give him his shirts.  I didn't  make him put one on to take a pic because the place was full of girls that looked like they were pregaming before a Motley Crue show, (Motley Crue 1987 not Motley Crue 2011) and it would have been weird.

Anywhoo, the next time you are searching for custom t-shirts RI, check out our work on this site and then give us a call.

Blackstar HT 1 amp

10/15/2011

I can't find it anywhere and am not sure I want it bad enough to buy it online and wait.  It seems like a cool little practice amp that packs a punch, and reminds me of the amp that Guy Dalton used to use until it blew up in my basement.

This is what bothers me about Guitar Center, they do the same thing with Fender amps.  They don't carry the absolute bestsellers, they carry the one up from that model, which most people don't really need.  The last time I was there, they had a Blackstar mini stack, which I'm sure sounds very nice, but once you get into that price range and power level, you might as well go a step further.

Golden Retriever Dry Skin Dog Dry Skin Remedy Brewer's Yeast

10/13/2011

My dog had the worst hot spot season of his life this past summer, we kept it under control but it was a constant battle.  With the arrival of Fall, he had dry skin that he was biting at constantly.  I kept hearing and reading about brewer's yeast as a natural remedy so I picked some up.  Parker loved the taste of the tablets and within 3 days he has completely stopped scratching.
It's a good thing because the Bite Not collar didn't work because he's so big that there's literally no area that he can't reach, and he eventually figured out how to remove his Elizabethan collar.
Four Paws brand Brewer's Yeast: highly recommended

Scituate Art Festival, my first 5k in about a year is TOMORROW - Gloria Gemma 5k

10/8/2011

It's been years since I've been to the Scituate art festival and it's doubled in size since last time.  I went with my parents, and had brought a camera to take a pic of the awesome job the new company did (scroll down to see the Twirl girls in their custom outfits), I just started working for the new co. this past week.

I was pretty sure that none of us had breakfast before going, so I was pretty hungry, and all of the fire depts, rotaries, Knights of Columbus', etc. were selling delicious carnival type snacks.  Every few feet my father said: do you want a steak sandwich?  How about chowder (as we passed a chowder stand), "clamcakes?", "kettle corn"?

He was convinced that he could tell by the smell that the hot dogs were all beef.  My mother put the whole conversation to rest when she pointed out that there were no sinks in sight, and yet everyone preparing the food all day was probably using the porta johns.  (which I'm not sure is true because the local shops, churches, etc. were all open and participating in the festival, so chances are they probably had a place to wash up.)

Although...the porta johns WERE obviously the closest restroom to *some* of the food areas.  I live on the edge and would have risked it, and my father would too, as carnie food is a rare delicacy, but we ended up getting sandwiches later and that was fine.

Tomorrow I am running my first 5k in about a year.  I've been getting ready all week and I feel good, but I did make the mistake of trying to break in some new shoes and have quite a blister on my achilles tendon.  I'll probably wear my old shoes tomorrow until the new ones are broken in.  My new employer did the shirts for that team also, and they came out perfect.  Hopefully the team will let me take a group pic, I'll post it tomorrow.
