Alesis GuitarLink Review USB to 1/4" Direct Guitar to Computer Cable & Shaw's Potato Chips7/30/2011 Alesis claims that this is a great FAST way to plug your guitar directly into your computer without the need for an interface. It's a great idea...if only it produced any kind of quality sound whatsoever. This product functions so badly that I thought it was broken. I asked them for a replacement, and upon receiving the new one, I plugged it in to receive the same distortion and latency. I know that you get what you pay for, but this isn't all that cheap for what it is and the build quality. I was planning to pick up some actual digital studio equipment to do a few home demos, and bought this item because I thought it was a really good idea to record song ideas quickly. I know that Alesis makes some great products, but if this is a person's first experience with their fine digital solutions, do you think they will risk purchasing the higher end items? In this case, the answer is no. Roland, Apogee, and M-Audio all make some fine interfaces in a few different price ranges and I would definitely give them a try after flushing my money down the toilet on this first experience with Alesis. Anyway, I don't enjoy negativity so here's a great product that totally surprised me recently: Shaw's store brand potato chips! The brand is Shoppers Value, I'm pretty sure it's their brand because I'd never seen it before. I highly recommend the BBQ and Ruffled ones. Do you think they'd take an Alesis GuitarLink cable in trade for some more chips? Do YOU have chips and want to trade for a brand new Alesis GuitarLink cable? It's a...um...great way to record directly into you computer without the hassle of using an interface! I had a lot of fun last night. Zulu Lulu was awesome as usual, and their drummer, Chad had even put my name on the poster for the event. Because I am super responsible, I chose to have a cab bring me to the party, and it ended up being a really nice black sedan for the same price as a cab. The driver was really cool, I took down his cel number because he said anytime I need a driver, he can get me into a bunch of clubs for free. The name of the company was Corporate Taxi, I highly recommend it.
This really pretty blonde haired girl started talking to me about music, asking me all sorts of detailed questions because she wanted to start playing shows. I thought things were going well and that I had made a new friend, but when I was talking to a couple other people she must have thought we were talking about her, because she crumpled up the paper I had given her with my info and threw it back at me. In retrospect I think she may have been a little crazy. I'm kind of mad at her because she made me ask the band if she could do a song with them, and they said yes...I hope they didn't let her. If any members of ZL are reading this...sorry about unleashing her on you. The only way to redeem the evening after that was Taco Bell. The combination of gross fast food, partying, and staying out too late has left me feeling more than a bit run down...I don't think I'm going anywhere tonight. It might be a good idea to shut my phone off. |
