I used Publix fantastic online ordering system to ensure that I would not wait in line and could grab the veggies first and then the sandwiches, giving the deli artisans a few extra minutes in case they were putting the finishing touches on my masterpiece. The order was placed precisely at 10:11am.
The sandwiches were to be handed off by an undisclosed party at 10:35 am.
As I rounded the corner to grab my sandwiches at 10:40, I sensed something was wrong. There was no one getting helped at the deli, but the clerk wasn't doing anything. Then one customer came up, and was helped with classic Public customer service. Then another. Then another. I looked over at the online order pick up station...and no luck. I decided to walk around the store to see if I needed anything else, perusing the selection of fine organic juices.
At 10:50 I made my way back over to the deli, and still...no luck. By this point I'd received a curious glance from the deli clerk but no outward communication. I make another lap, now with full knowledge that I need nothing else, just my delicious sandwiches.
As I pass through the frozen veggie section, I replace my now thawed veggies with fresh ones, because momma didn't raise no fool.
at 10:56 a manager working the popcorn machine notices that I've made more laps than I guess would be considered "normal" and asks if he can help me. I say "yes I need to cancel an order." He goes over, checks the ticket, and I receive the..."OH. Sorry about that."
Apology accepted, as I leave defeated at 10:59 with my vegetables that I paid twice as much for than if I just went to Walmart.
